Dewi Sartika
Dewi sartika is a pioneering figure of education of women. She was recognized as a National hero by the government of Indonesia in 1966.
Dewi sartika was born from the famous sundanese family. As a child, she always
played the role of a teacher after school with his friends. On January 16,
1904, he made a school called school of wives in Pendopo Bandung Regency. The
school was the relocated to jalan ciguriang and changed it's name to sekolah
kaoetamaan wife in 1910. In 1912, there were nine Sekolah Kaoetamaan Wife in
cities or regencies in West Java (Half of the cities and regencies), and in
1920 all of cities and regencies had one school. In September 1929, this school
changed its name to Sekolah Raden Dewi. She was awarded the Order of
Orange-Nassau as a tribute to her service in education. She died on 11 September 1947 at
Cineam, Tasikmalaya while she was evacuating from Bandung due to independence
war.
